Functional Description
VoicePumps VP140 mixed-signal digital signal processor (DSP) is designed to address the voiceband processing needs of low- to medium-density voice gateways and Integrated Access Devices (IADs) for Voice over Broadband applications.
A wide variety of speech coding and telephony algorithms may be performed upon commands issued by a host processor. The VP140, with its included DSP firmware, can be used as a DSP black box since no DSP programming is required of the user.
The VP140 is based upon DSP Groups TeakLiteDSPCore® processor. It includes an integrated set of peripherals that have been optimized for use in IADs for Voice over Broadband networks.
- All requisite program and data memory on-chip
- Host processor interface
- Time-division multiplexed (TDM) serial port interface

VoicePump Company Overview
VoicePump, Inc., was originally established in 1993 as Analogical Systems, a developer of real-time DSP software for speech coding and telecom applications. In 1998, Analogical Systems developed complete system-level software applications for embedded Voice over Packet Network products and thereafter adopted the VoicePump company name. In March of this year, DSP Group acquired a majority stake in VoicePump and invested capital as well as intellectual property resources. With this backing, VoicePump began development of integrated Application-Specific Standard Products (ASSPs) optimized for VoDSL , VoIP and other packet voice applications.
BLES VoDSL IAD Application
The VP140 ASSP contains embedded firmware that performs all voiceband processing required for DSL Forum TR-036 Annex A Broadband Loop Emulation Services (BLES) VoDSL applications and is available today. In this application, a host processor performs the ATM protocol stack and networking functions in the IAD. The VP140 will typically perform either 64kbps G.711 PCM or 32kbps G.726 ADPCM coding of each voice channel which is then packetized and sent in place of a corresponding portion of the bandwidth of the data network. By keeping delay to a minimum, performing jitter buffering and fully compliant ITU-T G.168 echo cancellation, true toll-quality voice is attainable.
Single-Chip Four-Port VoDSL/VoIP Solution: The VP140 contains all requisite peripherals (memory, A/Ds and D/As) and processing power to perform four channels of 32ms G.168 echo-canceled G.711/G.726/G.723.1/G.729A/B on each channel, in addition to tone detection/generation and VAD/CNG. |
