Functional Description

VoicePump’s VP120/110 mixed-signal digital signal processors (DSPs) are designed to address the voiceband processing needs of low density voice gateways and Integrated Access Devices (IADs) for VoIP and other Voice-Over-Broadband applications. A variety of speech coding and telephony applications are configurable on a per channel basis via a flexible Host Processor Interface protocol. With all requisite software in ROM, the VP120/110 serves as a ”glueless” black box interfacing analog telephone channels to a packet based host processor. The VP120/110 is based upon DSP Group’s TeakLite® processor. It includes an integrated set of peripherals that have been optimized for use in IADs and Voice-over-Broadband networks.

  • No external memory required for complete functionality
  • Host processor interface
  • Integrated Speaker Power Amplifier providing 250mW into 8 Ohm Speaker
  • Two Sigma-delta A/D, D/A converters with complete analog front end
  • General purpose input/output pins permit glueless interface to Subscriber Line Interface Circuits (SLICs) or other devices

VoicePump Company Overview

VoicePump, Inc. was originally established in 1993 as Analogical Systems, a developer of real-time DSP software for speech coding and telecom applications. In 1998, Analogical Systems developed complete system-level software applications for embedded Voice over Packet Network products and thereafter adopted the “VoicePump” company name. In March, 2001, DSP Group completed its acquisition of VoicePump which now develops integrated silicon solutions for VoIP, VoDSL and other voice over packet applications. VoicePump’s products embed optimized, field-proven speech coding and telecom algorithms and system-on-chip solutions for packet voice processing, ideal for voice-gateway and customer premises equipment manufacturers seeking “black box” DSP solutions.

VoIP Application

VoicePump’s innovative VP120 and VP110 family of ASSP’s provide low cost, low power one and two-port solutions for VoIP phone applications. In this application, a host processor performs the protocol stack and networking functions. The VP120/110 performs speech compression on each voice channel, which is then packetized and sent in place of a corresponding portion of the bandwidth of the data network. Ease of use, along with a full feature set of firmware allows rapid development of embedded VoIP telephony products and applications.

Single-Chip Four-Port VoDSL/VoIP Solution: The VP120/110 contains all requisite peripherals (memory, A/Ds and D/As) and processing power to perform two channels of G.168 echo-cancelled G.711/G.726/G.723.1/G.729A/B on each channel, in addition to tone detection/generation.
