The goal of our Jewish studies program is to have each student form a strong, positive Jewish identity and to feel personally connected to the Jewish community. At the Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School, students are encouraged to see themselves as the next link in the on-going chain of the Jewish people.
Our school year includes the joyous celebration of holidays, life cycle events and Jewish culture. Through the study of a wide variety of text, including Torah, Talmud, Midrashim and modern writings, our students learn to integrate these texts into their lives in a meaningful way. In accordance with our support of religious pluralism, we introduce children to a wide variety of religious practice. The prayer curriculum includes exploration of the meaning, structure and intent of prayer.
The creation of the State of Israel is one of the seminal events in Jewish history. Recognizing the significance of the State and its national institutions, we seek to instill in our students an attachment to the State of Israel and its people as well as a sense of responsibility for their welfare.
We place great emphasis on developing a strong sense of values and ethical behavior. Ethics and values are infused throughout the curriculum. We engage even the youngest students in moral reasoning. Social action and programs are incorporated at every grade level so that students understand that each one is capable of making a positive difference in the world.
